Donald Trump has reportedly threatened to deport Robert De Niro after the Oscar-winning actor called him an “idiot” who is going to “ruin the country” and urged Americans to stand up against his administration.
De Niro, 82, made the remarks during an appearance on Nicolle Wallace’s The Best People podcast, where he sharply criticized Trump and encouraged fellow Americans to push back against what he described as increasingly oppressive leadership.
“We gotta get rid of him,” De Niro said. “He’s gonna ruin the country. I don’t want everybody going around with their MAGA, the American flags, like they’re the only ones. We are Americans too.”
The actor had also hosted a political event called the State of the Swamp on the same night Trump delivered his State of the Union address. During the event, De Niro told attendees to “be ready to take to the streets together” if they wanted to take their country back.
Trump’s response on Truth Social
Trump responded with a lengthy and highly personal post on Truth Social.
He described De Niro as “Trump Deranged,” “sick and demented,” and someone with an “extremely Low IQ.” Trump also suggested that De Niro should leave the United States and get on a boat alongside Democratic representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, whom he also criticized in the same post.
For context, De Niro was born in New York City.
“They should actually get on a boat with Trump Deranged Robert De Niro, another sick and demented person who has, I believe, an extremely Low IQ, who has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying – some of which is seriously CRIMINAL!” Trump wrote.
Trump also mentioned Rosie O’Donnell, referring to her decision to move to Ireland following his second inauguration. He compared De Niro unfavorably to O’Donnell, saying she was “probably somewhat smarter than him, which isn’t saying much.”
Trump ended the post by signing it:
