Two 11-year-old boys have been found alive and pulled from the remains of collapsed buildings in Venezuela, bringing a rare moment of hope after the country was hit by two devastating earthquakes.

One of the boys, Moises, survived trapped under nearly three metres of debris for over 70 hours before Colombian rescue teams carefully freed him. Another boy was rescued only hours later in the town of Caraballeda.

The emotional rescues were met with cheers from emergency workers and tears of relief from families waiting nearby.

Australian man charged over death of 17-year-old in Thailand
An Australian man has been charged with the murder of a 17-year-old Thai girl after her body was found inside a suitcase near railway tracks in Pattaya.

Authorities say 46-year-old Simon Peter Carman was captured on CCTV entering a condominium with the teenager and later leaving while carrying a large suitcase.

He was arrested at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport while allegedly trying to return to Australia. He now faces charges including murder, hiding a body, and taking a minor for sexual purposes. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.

Trejo, who plays for Venezuelan club Club Sport Marítimo de La Guaira, spent more than 70 hours desperately searching for his family after rushing back from Caracas, where he was training when the disaster struck.

More than 1,300 deaths linked to European heatwave
A powerful heatwave affecting parts of Europe has been connected to more than 1,300 deaths, according to early health estimates, with officials warning that extreme temperatures are putting huge pressure on hospitals and emergency services.
