Donald Trump is receiving heavy criticism after a speech where he performed an exaggerated weightlifting impression while discussing transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.
During an event at Mack Trucks’ manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, Trump returned to one of his long-standing political topics: transgender women participating in women’s athletic competitions. However, many viewers focused less on his message and more on the way he delivered it.
While speaking to the crowd, Trump acted out a dramatic weightlifting scene, using exaggerated movements, facial expressions, and sounds. Before doing the impression, he joked that his wife, Melania Trump, does not like when he performs the routine.
“My wife hates when I do this,” Trump said, before continuing anyway.
He described a fictional story about a female athlete attempting to break a long-standing weightlifting record, saying her family was watching proudly. He then added that a person who had transitioned later entered the situation, which he used to argue about fairness in women’s sports.
The moment quickly spread online, with critics calling the performance uncomfortable, inappropriate, and embarrassing.
One viewer wrote: “This is a national embarrassment.”

Another commented: “Show me one world leader who has ever acted like this on television.”
Others questioned why the president chose to dramatize the issue instead of focusing on the policy discussion itself. Some supporters, however, defended Trump, saying he was bringing attention to concerns about fairness in women’s competitions.
The debate over transgender athletes remains one of the most divisive issues in American politics. Trump has repeatedly supported restrictions on transgender women competing in women’s sports, making the topic a major part of his political platform.
As usual, Trump’s comments have created strong reactions from both supporters and critics.
