Blue Ivy Carter and North West are once again making headlines after their latest public appearances reignited online discussions about their different personalities, fashion choices, and upbringings as two of the world’s most recognizable celebrity children.
The conversation began after 14-year-old Blue Ivy attended her father Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt Jay-Z30 pop-up event in New York City on June 25. Just a day later, 13-year-old North West turned heads during Paris Fashion Week with a bold new look featuring a blue wig, facial piercings, combat boots, and an all-black outfit.
Social media quickly filled with comparisons between the two teens, with many users shifting the focus to the parenting styles of Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian.
Blue Ivy impressed fans with her striking resemblance to Beyoncé. Dressed casually in a hoodie and jeans, she debuted a long braided ponytail that reminded many of one of her mother’s signature hairstyles.
“She’s just like her mama—strike a pose and then ‘OK, let’s go,’” one fan commented.
Another added, “Blue is so beautiful and special. A true young professional.”
Blue has steadily grown into the spotlight over the past few years. She has performed alongside Beyoncé during both the Renaissance World Tour and the Cowboy Carter Tour, and she also became the youngest Grammy winner after contributing to the hit song Brown Skin Girl.
Despite her increasing fame, Blue has earned praise for her confidence, professionalism, and composed public image.
Beyoncé has previously shared that she and Jay-Z worked hard to help Blue embrace her natural beauty. She revealed that Jay-Z even grew out his own hair after Blue struggled with confidence about her curls, hoping to encourage her to love every part of herself.
“We really wanted her to love and embrace every inch of her gorgeous curls,” Beyoncé once said.
Meanwhile, North West’s appearance at Paris Fashion Week sparked plenty of conversation. She appeared to debut several facial piercings—including angel bites—though it remains unclear whether they were permanent or temporary. She completed the edgy look with a bright blue wig, heavy accessories, combat boots, and dark clothing.
The appearance came months after North showed off additional hand piercings and released a song with her father, Kanye West, titled Piercing on My Hand, in which she raps about wanting “more piercings and tats.”
While many praised North for confidently expressing herself through fashion and music, others questioned whether she was being given too much freedom.
One commenter wrote, “I feel North West has decided to just do whatever she wants.”
Others argued that the girls simply reflect different personalities, family dynamics, and parenting approaches.
“Two different children, two different personalities, two separate families, and different upbringings,” one user commented. “Kim, Kanye, Beyoncé, and Jay all allow their children to express themselves in their own ways while still providing parental guidance. I don’t see anything wrong.”
Many also pointed out that Beyoncé has intentionally kept much of her family life private, while Kim Kardashian built her career through reality television and social media—making direct comparisons between the two households unfair.
Kim has consistently defended North’s creativity, saying she wants her daughter to freely explore fashion, art, and music.
“Expressing herself makes North so happy. I would never take that creativity away from her,” Kardashian said during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
At the same time, Kim has emphasized that boundaries do exist. She previously revealed that North accidentally went live on TikTok without permission and that she quickly ended the livestream because there are still rules regarding social media use.
Kanye West has also voiced concerns about his children’s online presence, saying in a resurfaced 2022 interview that they would not be allowed to use TikTok without his approval.
As is often the case with celebrity children, what began as a conversation about two teenagers quickly evolved into a broader debate about parenting, privacy, and allowing children to express themselves.
