Robert De Niro Breaks Down in Tears While Delivering Emotional Message About Donald Trump

Hollywood icon Robert De Niro became visibly emotional during a recent interview as he shared his concerns about the future of America, accusing President Donald Trump of “destroying” the country.

Appearing on The Best People with Nicole Wallace podcast, the 82-year-old Academy Award winner didn’t hold back in his criticism.

“The story is our country, and Trump is destroying it,” De Niro said. “We have to save the country.”

The actor went on to describe Trump as “an enemy of this country,” urging Americans to unite and push back against what he believes is a dangerous political movement.

“Everybody has to stick together to get them out and get back on track,” he said. “That’s the only way.”

De Niro also warned that the movement surrounding Trump could continue even after he leaves office, saying it must be challenged by the American people.

During the interview, the actor became emotional when host Nicole Wallace praised him for always encouraging others.

“You have to lift people up,” De Niro said, holding back tears. “You have to bring them together. You can’t divide people. You can’t win that way.”

Reflecting on the current state of the nation, he added that it is up to Americans to protect their democracy from those he believes are trying to undermine it.

This isn’t the first time De Niro has publicly criticized Trump. In a video released by the political activist group Indivisible in October 2025, he compared the president to a would-be monarch, urging Americans to peacefully defend democracy and declaring, “No Kings.”
