I just stood there, watching him through the screen. Long gray beard, tattoos creeping up his neck, a worn leather vest covered in patches I didn’t recognize.

His hands were huge, folded calmly in front of him.

“Ma’am,” he said, his voice deep and steady, “are you Caleb’s mother?”

My heart dropped.

We had only been in this town for four months. The kind of smile that reaches his eyes.

He started sleeping through the night.

One evening, he looked at me and said:

“Mom… I think God really read my letter.”

I pulled him close and kissed his head.

“I think He did too,” I said softly.

Then I glanced across the room, where Tank sat quietly, giving us space like he always did.

And in that moment, I realized something:

Sometimes help doesn’t come the way we expect it.

Sometimes… it shows up on your porch at 7:14 in the morning.

A man built like a wall was standing on my front porch at 7:14 that morning.
