Lucas practiced smiling in the mirror every morning because he wanted to \u201clook happy in every photo.\u201d Mason made a list of rides he hoped to try, even the ones he knew might not be wheelchair accessible. He said watching other kids enjoy them would still make him happy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the morning we planned to go, I made the mistake of posting in a local parents group online, hoping maybe my boys could meet other children there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Instead, the comments shattered me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were simply children having the best day of their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before we left, one of the same mothers who had criticized us online walked over quietly and apologized. She admitted she had been wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tommy looked at her and said something I\u2019ll never forget:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese boys fight harder for joy every single day than most people fight for anything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That night I posted a photo of my boys standing beside those bikers \u2014 soaked from the water ride and smiling bigger than I\u2019d ever seen before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The story spread everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now that motorcycle club organizes monthly trips for children with disabilities so no child ever feels unwanted again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And last month, my oldest son asked Tommy:
