Not sure if your eggs are still fresh? There’s a quick and easy method you can try at home—the water test. The image above shows exactly how it works.
✅ How does it work?
Just place the egg in a bowl of cold water and observe what happens:
- 🟢 If it sinks and lays flat on the bottom
→ Very fresh and safe to eat. - 🟡 If it sinks but stands slightly upright
→ Still okay to eat, but not very fresh. - 🟠 If it stands upright on the bottom
→ Use it soon. - 🔴 If it floats to the top
→ Do NOT eat it. It’s spoiled.
💡 Why does this happen?
Over time, air gets inside the egg through its shell. The more air inside, the more it floats in water.
