While followers were aware that Dolly Parton had encountered health difficulties over the past year, the reality of her condition remained hidden until her team confirmed she had been fighting cancer shortly after her passing on August 25.
Her niece, Jada Star, recently opened up to Extra about why the country icon kept her battle so quiet, noting that Dolly always preferred to guard her privacy to avoid placing a burden on others.
Even though her family was mindful of her ongoing health struggles, her sudden loss was deeply painful and unexpected. As Jada put it, the sudden turn of events on Tuesday left everyone in complete shock.
Reflecting on her deep connection with Dolly, Jada shared:
“I’ve never known a world without her in it. She’d probably tell us all to wipe our tears, get back to business, and hold onto each other tight. She really was one of a kind.”
Overcome with emotion during the interview, Jada reflected on what her final message to her aunt would be: “I’d just want to tell her thank you for everything, that I love her endlessly, and that I know she’s at peace now.”
