Life can change in an instant. You never know what a single day might bring. One young couple was standing on the side of the road when a vehicle suddenly came barreling toward them.
The quick-thinking husband managed to push his wife out of the vehicle’s path, ultimately saving her life. Sadly, he was not as fortunate himself…
31-year-old Raymond Surber was off-duty and driving his 2017 Chevrolet Silverado on August 1 when he crashed into a young couple who were stopped on the side of the road. ACSO Reserve Deputy Lucas Shoffner and his wife, Nicole Shoffner, were there trying to repair a dirt bike when Surber’s vehicle suddenly struck them.
In a split-second decision, Lucas pushed Nicole out of the way as the crash unfolded. His quick reaction helped protect his wife from the full impact, but he ended up suffering the consequences himself.
