Brad Paisley was on a brief break from his BRAD PAISLEY LIVE tour when news broke that Dolly Parton had passed away on August 25 following a short battle with cancer.
Like countless others, Paisley was deeply saddened by the news and turned to social media to honor the country music icon. But his connection to Dolly was especially meaningful, as the two recorded the emotional 2005 song “When I Get Where I’m Going” together.
The song was a major success and earned Vocal Event of the Year at both the CMA Awards and ACM Awards. Its music video also won Video of the Year at the ACM Awards.
For his tribute, Paisley shared a clip from their music video, which centers on the idea of an afterlife without pain or sorrow. Alongside the video, he wrote:
“I never imagined this day would come. Getting to know Dolly was life changing, but not just for me. For everyone. She seemed immortal. And in the spirit of what we sang together on this song, I believe she is. It won’t be the same down here without you Dolly. But what a legacy of goodness and art you leave for all of us.
Goodbye hero. We will always love you.”
Paisley’s heartfelt words captured the deep admiration and affection he had for Dolly, while reflecting on the lasting impact she had on so many lives.
