Collin Gosselin has made another serious allegation against his mother, Kate Gosselin, as the release of his upcoming memoir brings their long-running family conflict back into the spotlight.

The 22-year-old, who grew up in front of cameras on Jon & Kate Plus 8, has accused his mother of years of mistreatment and isolation — claims Kate has repeatedly denied. Now, ahead of the release of his tell-all book, Collin has stood by his allegations after Kate publicly rejected his story and suggested she would take legal action if possible.
The latest dispute began when Kate responded to fans on TikTok who urged her to sue over Collin’s upcoming memoir. The former reality TV star explained that because she is a public figure, a defamation lawsuit would be much harder to pursue.
“I can’t because I’m a public figure. Rules are different unfortunately. Or I definitely would,” Kate wrote in a comment. She also claimed she had previously spoken with a “high-power LA attorney,” who allegedly explained that defamation cases involving public figures are difficult to win. When a follower asked if she would take a lie detector test regarding Collin’s accusations, Kate responded, “Ha!”
Shortly after, Collin responded through Instagram Stories with another claim. He alleged that his mother once wrote in her diary that she “had to pray to God to stop hitting me,” saying he was only two years old at the time.
“Never forget the fact that my mom would write in her diary how she ‘had to pray to God to stop hitting me,’” Collin wrote. “And this is why using my voice to bring these things to light is so important.”
The accusation comes as Collin prepares to release his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, which is set to arrive on October 13. In announcing the book, Collin said viewers only saw an edited version of his childhood while cameras followed his family’s life.
“For years, I kept those experiences to myself,” he wrote. “Some because I was afraid. Some because I didn’t think anyone would believe me. And some because I simply wasn’t ready.”
He added that millions of people watched him grow up on television, but “there was so much they never saw.”
“This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I lived,” he said.
Collin previously made headlines in 2024 when he claimed that Kate isolated him from his siblings and kept him in a locked room in the family’s unfinished basement. He alleged the space had surveillance cameras, a small window, and could only be opened from the outside. He also claimed he slept there on a mattress and was sometimes restrained.
He has also accused his mother of being physically and emotionally abusive during his childhood. Kate’s attorney, Richard Puleo, denied the claims, saying he did not believe Kate intentionally harmed her son and suggesting that Collin had struggled with serious behavioral issues.
Reports later stated that medical records included discussions about Collin’s experiences with a counselor. His father, Jon Gosselin, has publicly supported his son and said he only learned about the alleged basement room after gaining custody of Collin and his sister Hannah in 2018.
Jon and Kate divorced in 2009, and their reality series continued as Kate Plus 8. While Collin remains close with his father and sister Hannah, he is reportedly distant from his other siblings, including twins Cara and Madelyn and the rest of the sextuplets.
Earlier this month, Collin praised Jon on Father’s Day, thanking him for their relationship. He has also referred to Jon’s former partner, Colleen Conrad, as his “real mom” in another social media post.
According to the memoir’s publisher, the book will also discuss Collin’s claims about being prescribed powerful medications as a child and will examine what he describes as “the dark side of fame” and the systems that failed to protect him.
Kate has continued to deny her son’s version of events, saying Collin experienced serious mental health struggles from a young age. She has described him as a troubled young man and argued that his accusations come from what she calls a distorted view of reality and years of difficult behavior.
The family drama continues as both sides remain firm in their accounts.
