The search for Australian magician Daniel Hidden has ended in tragedy after the 26-year-old was found dead following 11 days of searching. Daniel disappeared during a solo camping trip in the remote Australian bushland, leaving family, friends, and rescuers desperately hoping for his safe return.
Before his disappearance, visitors to Daniel’s website were met with the words: “transformation requires disappearance.” After he vanished, the phrase took on a heartbreaking and unsettling meaning.
Daniel left home in the early hours of June 14, driving his silver Hyundai while towing his caravan toward the Springbrook area — a location he knew well and deeply loved.
His brother, Ilya Jamshidi, said the area was one of Daniel’s favorite places.
“He had even tattooed the coordinates of a special spot there on his fingers,” Jamshidi explained, saying the location meant a lot to him.
Two days after he went missing, police discovered Daniel’s vehicle, phone, and belongings near Gorge Falls and Cougal Cascades — areas known for their challenging terrain, dense bushland, and hiking trails. However, there was no sign of Daniel.
Although Daniel was experienced in the outdoors and often went on solo adventures, his family quickly realized something was wrong.
“He does go camping and takes trips alone, but he has never disappeared without contact,” his brother said.
The fact that Daniel had left his phone behind was especially unusual.
As the days passed, concern turned into fear. His family knew Daniel loved exploring difficult and remote areas, often avoiding marked paths and seeking out places that tested his limits.
“He doesn’t like staying on regular tracks. He looks for the challenge of unexplored places,” Jamshidi said. “If something seemed dangerous or exciting, that’s probably where he would go.”
The search operation grew larger as police, emergency crews, volunteers, drones, aviation units, and Australian Defence Force personnel searched the rugged landscape.
Authorities said the difficult terrain made the search challenging, but they believed there was still hope because of Daniel’s survival skills and knowledge of the wilderness.
His mother, Faranak, continued to believe he would be found alive.
“He is my son, and he is strong. He is capable of surviving,” she said in an emotional appeal. “We need to find him. He needs help.”
Sadly, after 11 days of searching, that hope came to an end.
On June 24, Daniel’s body was discovered inside Mount Cougal National Park. Police said his death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
